A free Accessibility Open House — explore the tools and accommodations that make live theatre welcoming for every patron.

On Friday, November 6, we’re opening our doors before the show for an evening built entirely around access. Come as you are, take your time, and see for yourself how the Arden works for every patron.

Stop by our information tables to meet the people behind Arden’s accessibility services and try them firsthand: slip on a pair of Caption Glasses, borrow a KultureCity sensory bag, hear how audio description brings the stage to life, and test an assistive listening device. Take a sensory tour of the building — including the Independence Foundation Studio, our designated quiet space — so you know exactly what to expect before the lights go down. Our staff will be on hand all evening to answer questions, walk you through accommodations, and help you plan a visit that’s comfortable for you.

Smart Caption Glasses

Smart Caption Glasses are wearable, customizable closed-captioning technology, first introduced during our production of Ladysitting in January 2024. The glasses display a live transcription of the dialogue and sound effects of the performance, directly in your field of vision, while still being able to see the performance through them, much like activating captioning on your TV. Smart Caption Glasses are available for all productions, typically about 1 week after our Opening Night performances.

Shadow ASL Interpretation – Pinocchio 2023-24, HandsUp Productions

Shadow ASL Interpreted performances are available for select Friday morning school matinees and Saturdays at 4pm during each of our Children’s Theatre productions. These services are available through the incredible work of our partners at HandsUp Productions.

Open Captioning is available for select Fridays at 7pm and Saturdays at 2pm for each of our Mainstage productions.
