I can still remember the time I saw snow for the very first time. I was fourteen years old and had just moved from Mexico to the United States. I was in the middle of science class and out of the corner of my eye, right outside the window, I saw these weird shaped cotton balls falling from the sky. I turned to look and blurted out loud “Is that snow?!”, to which the rest of my classmates replied, “Yes. Wait, you’ve never seen snow before?” “No!” At that moment, my teacher stopped class and took us all outside to play in the new snow!

Doesn’t the first snow of winter always feel so magical? It sort of brings out the explorer in you. Every season has a magical element to it. The flowers blooming in spring, the sun and green of summer and the spooky and orange tones of fall. It certainly makes an explorer and a creator out of Peter. Being curious and interested in all kinds of things helps you come up with new ideas and even your own inventions. You too can be like Peter, no matter who or where you are, or what anyone says. Just believe and trust in yourself and you too can help create a place where everyone is welcome.

I hope you enjoy The Snowy Day and that you let that explorer and creator inside of you take you on exciting new journeys you never imagined possible.

and… Action!

ILLDOOTS (Composer) ILL DOOTS has always and will forever be a body of change. Since their inception at University of the Arts in 2009, this musical collective of individuals has each brought their own lifetime of artistic influences and experiences into the fold to contribute to the group’s timeless and genre-defying music. Hailing from all over the United States but unified under the undeniable grit and soul of Philadelphia, the band currently consists of five members; US, Elle.Morris, Scott Ziegler, Jordan McCree, Andrew Nittoli, with frequent collaborations from Simon Martinez. From energy shifting live performances to commissioned theatre works and educational workshops, 3 studio albums and countless mixtapes, plus six national tours to date — to deny ILL DOOTS’ output, social justice advocacy, and relevance to the culture would truly be a disservice to the community that helped make it possible. Every member strives to be a pillar in their community, especially in their work as teaching artists embodying the acronym behind the whole brand: ILL- I Love Living & I Love Learning. Their passion will spread this message throughout the cosmos as they continue to transmute experiences of curiosity and learning into the art.

In Philadelphia, remarkable murals enrich walls all over the city. In The Snowy Day, we feature three very special and beautiful murals. ASpire: No Limits by Ernel Martinez (Featuring Dr. Shawn L. “Air Smooth” White.), Holding Grandmother’s Quilt (West Wall) by Don Gensler (Featuring Community Leader Miss Jones) and Remembering a Forgotten Hero by Keir Johnston and Willis “Nomo” Humphrey (Featuring Octavius V. Catto). These murals are used in our show as a way to encourage Peter to find his voice, his strength, and the artist within. We hope you catch some of these incredible Philadelphia murals on your next walk around the city, and who knows, perhaps inspire you to create some of your own art!
