Music and Lyrics by STEPHEN SONDHEIM
Book by JAMES LAPINE Directed by TERRENCE J. NOLEN Production Conceived by JORGE COUSINEAU and TERRENCE J. NOLEN On the F. Otto Haas Stage May 27 - July 4, 2010
Sondheim's Pulitzer Prize-winning musical was inspired by Georges Seurat's stunning masterpiece, Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. Brimming with beauty and light, Sunday in the Park celebrates the power of creation. Jeffrey Coon (Seurat) and Kristine Fraelich (Dot) star in this passionate production featuring Sondheim's full orchestrations and a commanding ensemble of 15. Hold on to your hat! Recommended for 9th grade and older.

Critical Acclaim– "This is by any standard a major revival, one of the strongest Sondheim productions of the past decade. Not only is this production sensitively staged and imaginatively designed, but it's the best-sung Sondheim revival to come along in years." –Wall Street Journal [Review] "Graceful, intense new production...a recent Broadway revival has nothing over the Arden, the region's premier Sondheim producer" –The Philadelphia Inquirer [Review] "In 1984, the end of Act I had provided one of my most memorable theatrical moments, and I wanted to relive it…The Arden's Act I finale is different, but just as brilliant." –The Philadelphia Inquirer [Review] "One of the wonders of modern theater...a show to see and treasure again and again." –City Paper [Review] "A visual stunner with an impressive cast" –KYW "The large ensemble is uniformly excellent." –Broad Street Review [Review] "The Arden’s current production pulls out all the stops: a 15-piece orchestra plays Sondheim’s lush music while sophisticated sound and light effects enhance the visual splendor of the play. A first-rate cast…costumed exquisitely in period dress, figuratively and metaphorically step in and out of the painting as they give voice to the brilliant lyrics." –Broad Street Review [Review] "Terry Nolen's got a way with Sondheim. His second time out with Sunday in the Park with George at the Arden is top notch. It's a pleasure watching all these characters come to life on the Grand Jatte on the Arden stage. Sound and video designer Jorge Couisneau's hard-working projectors and laptops accomplish a feast for ear and eye." –WRTI Behind the Scenes– Jorge Cousineau, Philadelphia’s theater magician -The Philadelphia Inquirer [Read More] Walter Charles celebrates 40th year on stage in Philly -DC Theatre Scene [Interview] Caroline Dooner returns home for Sunday -Ticket Entertainment [Read More] Sunday in the Park photo gallery -Playbill.com [View] APPLAUSE, PLEASE, FOR OUR SPONSOR:
